Indemnity Plans, AKA Gap Insurance, Help Cover Gaps in Coverage
What is Gap health insurance coverage? No matter the quality of your health insurance plan, the medical coverage probably still leaves you with at least some out-of-pocket expenses. For example, are you covered by a Medicare Advantage plan with inpatient hospital co-pays? Whether you are covered by individual health insurance, group medical insurance or Medicare, co-pays and deductibles are a reality.
Hospital Indemnity insurance can provide gap coverage to help offset out-of-pocket expenses by paying a daily benefit; for the money can be utilized to help with hospital co-pays or incidental expenses not covered by your medical insurance. Some indemnity plans may pay extra and ancillary benefits beyond inpatient hospital stays -- including ambulance trips, skilled nursing facility visits, outpatient surgery, durable medical equipment, etc.
